The RIBA 2030 Challenge: Our Pledge
In October 2019 RIBA announced the RIBA 2030 climate challenge, a set of four targets for architectural practices to follow, in order to reduce carbon emissions within the build industry.
“The RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge sets out a series of targets for practices to adopt to reduce operational energy, embodied carbon and potable water. If all RIBA Chartered Practices meet these targets, they will play their part in addressing the climate emergency.”
RIBA 2019
Construction in the UK accounts for 25% of all CO2 emitted. At DART, we feel it is our duty to do all we can to reduce the impact of our projects to a sustainable level to protect our shared environment.
DART is proud to announce that we are working towards the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge for all our projects. These four targets set out by the RIBA allow us to measure our designs against a Carbon Calculator framework, so we can evaluate your new home, its potential impact on carbon emissions and how these can be reduced.
The target areas we focus on are:
- Reduce Operational Energy demand by at least 60% (the amount of energy your home consumes for heating, lighting and cooling)
- Reduce Embodied Carbon by at least 40% (the amount of carbon the construction of your home releases)
- Reduce Potable Water Use by at least 40% (Recycling of existing water on site)
- Health and Wellbeing (the health and wealth benefits of sustainable holistic design)
How are we going to work towards the RIBA 2030 Challenge?
In any architectural design journey, we believe it is crucial to build in these positive actions at the early phases of a project, to maximise the benefits for you, and our planet. We will always specify high performance insulation and natural low embodied carbon materials. By designing in renewable energy options for your home; like Solar and Ground/Air Source Heat Pumps, we can eliminate the need for Fossil Fuels entirely!
Through our experience we can provide indications of costs, and with a list of trusted suppliers of renewable technologies local to Cornwall, we can be sure to get the best systems, competitively priced tailored to your designs and we can guide you from the very first step.
This is our pledge in order to meet our collective Carbon Neutral goals, future proofing your dream build and maximising the health and wellbeing benefits of sustainable design to you and your family.
