The Pigsty

The beautiful retreat of Tregoose Mill boasts unique accommodation for its guests and owners alike. We were asked to design a sensitive conversion and extension to the ruins of an old pigsty within the grounds of the estate.

The brief was relatively simple: maximise the existing building’s footprint, using existing window and door openings in order to create a luxurious one-bedroom cottage. The technical challenges were not so simple, with junctions between new and existing structure and the site being located on a flood plain, requiring creative design input throughout the project. Plus the deep retrofit of the existing walls, floor and roof were essential to bring the building up to the required levels of insulation and thermal performance.

The result, however, is a sympathetic highly technical conversion and extension, using locally sourced materials and trades to create the perfect hideaway.
